A Journey of Resilience
The story of RR Typewriter Mart begins long before our workshop or our collection.
Before the Partition of India in 1947, our family lived in Lahore. Like countless families, everything changed overnight. After relocating to Delhi, our grandfather rebuilt life from the ground up. By day, he worked as a government employee, and in the evenings, he sold speciality items to help provide for his family.
His determination laid the foundation for everything that followed.
Two Brothers, One Dream
As they grew older, my father, Mr. Rakesh Bajaj, and his elder brother, Late Mr. Pradeep Bajaj, entered the typewriter industry. They worked for some of the largest companies of the time, surrounded by manual typewriters, duplicators and mechanical calculators.
Eager to learn the technical side of the trade, they quickly discovered that knowledge was closely guarded. Teaching young workers meant creating future competition, so opportunities to learn were deliberately limited.
Instead of giving up, they decided to create their own path.
The Opportunity That Changed Everything
One day, while working at the company, my father noticed that perfectly usable spare parts were being discarded.
A local mechanic offered to buy some of those discarded basefeet. My father sold ten gross at ₹12 per gross.
The money he earned from that single transaction equalled nearly three months of his salary.
When he returned home and shared the money with his elder brother, both realised something remarkable.
Where others saw scrap, they saw opportunity.
The Birth of Superior Typewriter Spare
Inspired by that moment, the brothers opened a small business dealing in typewriter spare parts.
The early years were difficult. Competition was fierce, resources were limited, and simply trading spare parts wasn't enough to survive.
So they took a bold step.
Instead of depending on others, they began manufacturing their own spare parts, guided by one principle above all else:
Quality.
That decision marked the beginning of Superior Typewriter Spare, the company that would spend the next five decades serving the typewriter industry and eventually become the foundation upon which RR Typewriter Mart was built.
The story was only just beginning...

Five Decades of Dedication
Superior Typewriter Spare didn't become a trusted name overnight.
Built through hard work, perseverance and an unwavering commitment to quality, the business steadily earned the trust of mechanics, workshops and businesses across the country. Every challenge strengthened the belief that quality should never be compromised.
For over five decades, that philosophy remained unchanged.
When the World Changed
As computers replaced typewriters, the industry began to disappear.
Manufacturers shut down, workshops closed, and many believed the typewriter had reached the end of its journey.
We chose a different path.
Instead of leaving the industry behind, we continued supplying spare parts, servicing machines and preserving the knowledge that had taken decades to acquire.
More Than Just a Business
Over time, typewriters became more than the products we worked on.
They became part of our family's identity.
We began preserving machines that others overlooked, often collecting more than we sold. Every typewriter represented a piece of engineering and history that deserved another chance.
Without realizing it, we were preparing for the future.
A New Chapter Awaits
As interest in typewriters returned among collectors, writers and enthusiasts, we recognized that these machines still had an important place in the modern world.
That realization inspired the next chapter of our journey.
A chapter that would build upon five decades of experience and eventually give birth to RR Typewriter Mart.
A Turning Point
For more than fifty years, Superior Typewriter Spare operated almost entirely in the B2B market. We manufactured quality spare parts and supplied dealers, workshops and retailers across India, while remaining largely unknown to the end customer.
Many of these businesses built successful businesses using the products manufactured in our workshop. Our name stayed behind the scenes, while others became the face of the products in their respective markets.
For decades, this model worked.
Then the market changed.
Over time, increasing amounts of stock were supplied on credit. Payments became slower, outstanding dues grew larger, and our business became heavily dependent on dealers honoring their commitments. When the COVID-19 pandemic struck, many of those payments remained unpaid while orders came to a standstill.
Years of hard work and lakhs of rupees were locked away.
That was the moment everything changed.
Rather than continuing to remain behind the scenes, we made one of the biggest decisions in our family's history.
If our workshop had spent more than fifty years manufacturing spare parts, preserving technical knowledge and supporting the typewriter industry, then it was time for people to know who we were.
The Birth of RR Typewriter Mart
In 2020, RR Typewriter Mart was born.
For the first time, our family stepped forward and introduced itself directly to the people who mattered most—the customers.
For decades, many dealers across India had purchased our products in bulk, sold them across their regions, and many customers naturally believed those products had been manufactured by the businesses selling them.
RR Typewriter Mart changed that.
For the first time, customers could buy directly from the workshop that had spent over fifty years manufacturing typewriter spare parts, restoring machines and preserving the knowledge behind them.
We were no longer working quietly behind the curtain.
We were finally putting our own name behind the work we had always believed in.
Today, every typewriter, every spare part and every restoration that leaves our workshop proudly carries the name RR Typewriter Mart—a name built upon more than half a century of experience, craftsmanship and an unwavering commitment to quality.
